Faculty Relations Corner: How do I engage with a hostile colleague?

Dear Faculty Relations: I have a colleague who has been increasingly hostile to me. They have sent upsetting emails and have engaged in some aggressive personal interactions. I’ve tried to defuse the situation, but nothing is changing. I have to continue working with this individual, but the situation is getting increasingly worse. What can I do? - Feeling Overwhelmed

Apply for ACUMent Across CU Mentoring Center

Applications are open for the FY 2023-24 ACUMent program. ACUMent includes two programs: Mentor Matches and Peer Mentoring Circles. Matches pair more senior faculty as mentors with mentees outside of their departments to complement discipline-specific mentoring. Peer Circles are groups of 5-7 faculty members who provide mutual mentoring through a self-sustaining community around focused discussion and interests or a common career stage/experience. ACUMent provides an opportunity to build connections across campus, exchange knowledge with peers, and learn from more experienced faculty.
Faculty at all career stages can apply.

The Faculty Leadership Institute (FLI) program helps identify, foster, and support emerging leaders as they prepare to further their leadership trajectory. FLI offers each cohort the opportunity to engage with campus leaders in targeted discussions regarding current campus issues and build leadership skills.
